Industrial Roofing and Cladding
In construction news recently we've heard how important it is to prepare for the worst during the credit crunch and also reducing emissions. That is why we were interested by a New York university's unique approach to architecture. They build a fantastic solar powered house using a special form of steel cladding/roof sheeting called CO TEN.
Weathering Steel (also known sometimes as COR TEN steel) is a form of weather proof cladding that forms a protective layer of 'rust' as an outer layer. While you may think it is shocking to use a material that behaves in this way but it's truly a useful product to use in a variety of areas. The steel is a complex alloy with a corrosion retarding effect.
Its most popular usage is actually with sculptures located outdoors under the sky. They make for unique pieces of art that stand out often in stark contrast to their current architectural environment.
